Jazz- for real

FAR OUT! For this whole week I have been at a jazz camp and I have to say that i thoroughly LOVED it. It was run by Where is Jazz WA, camp co-ordinator was Glyn MacDonald (buy his album, glyn macdonald trio). The tutors include Matt Jodrell (totally awesome trumpet player), Troy Roberts (sax), Peter Jeavons (awesome bass player), Tom O' Halloran (piano), Gary Lee (guitar/vibes), bronwyn way (voice) and others (sorry I can't remember their names sadly!). These guys took their time and effort to teach us improv. Which is totally awesome. A special thanks to Pete. He was the one who taught me improv as I was in his improv/ensemble class. I meet alot of great people there. These people are so young and yet they can improve just like James Morrison. Gemma, Symphony many others. That totally cool bass player (I think his name is Josh) was totally cool. There was this one piano player (of whom i call piano man, i kept on forgetting his name) Phil, is such a fantabulouso improviser. And he was a year younger than me! Everyone was younger and yet they were so cool! I finally learnt how to improvise without looking stupid. 90% of improvisation being good is due to your confidence. When your up there just be confident and have fun. By doing this you will be able to improvise heaps better. Well i have learnt many things on this camp. To improvise, have fun, be confident and that Matt Jodrell is now my faveourite jazz player. James Morrison is awesome dont get me wrong, but Matt adds this zap to it. Sounds totally awesome. Anyway I must be off. Have a nice one and I shall see you later!
